Whistler Blackcomb : The Master Plan for Improvement

What a fantastic season it’s been for the Whistler Blackcomb Resort. With a 21-23% increase in visitor turnout over the same period last year, consistent snowfall, and the unfortunate decline of the Canadian dollar, the resort experienced an unprecedented amount of growth -a truly amazing feat for the resort.

Now following this landmark achievement, Whistler Blackcomb will roll out the master-plan and invest $8 M  into improving several of the popular areas throughout the resort. As if 8,171 ski-able acres, two high-speed gondolas, two triple chair-lifts, eight surface lifts, six high-speed quads, one high-speed 6-pack, 100+ marked runs, 17 restaurants, and a host of other features were not enough, the resort plans to add more. Yeah, bonus for us!

Nonetheless, Whistler will begin making improvements this year and plans to have them completed by the start of the 2016-17 ski season. Some of the enhancements visitors can expect to see in the new season are:

  • Improvements made to the ski and snowboard learning areas in effort to open up more beginner-friendly terrain.
  • Several re-graded ski runs.
  • Two new covered magic carpet lifts added at Olympic Station.
  • Twenty-five new energy-efficient snow guns added.
  • Summer enhancements to hiking trails throughout the mountains.
  • Upgrades to the Roundhouse Lodge that include a new deck with a glacier view and a 6,000 square foot patio, a new heated umbrella bar, and 160 new outdoor seats.
  • Expansion and relocation of the Samsung Alpine Theatre to the lower level of the Rendezvous Lodge.
  • Upgrades to the Garibaldi Lift Company restaurant that include renovations for a patio, a small expansion, a new roof, new heaters and fire pits, plus 90 outdoor covered seats.

All these upgrades will soon become a part of Whistler’s brand, and be one more reason visitors flock to the resort. Whether they are seeking adrenaline-pumping adventure; or looking to shake-it-up on the dance floor; or show off their après ski fashion; or indulge in some tasty cuisine; or simply just basking in the atmosphere of the resort, their choices are endless. Not to mention, there is plenty of affordable lodging both on and off the Whistler property, so visitors will have no problem finding a place to recover from last night’s après ski — in which case, a vacation rental for eight sounds like a good plan.

With that said, beginners and intermediates; experts and enthusiasts; skiers and snowboarders; sleigh-riders and tubers, the master-plan is in effect, so prepare to be amazed!
