Three Top Terrain Parks to Visit Out West

Terrain Parks first became popular in the early 90’s after the snowboarding surge in the 80’s. Perhaps it’s that little kid desire to jump and fly that makes terrain parks so popular. Regardless, they continue to be a popular attraction for skiers and snowboarders. If you are looking for some great places to try this coming season, check out these places:

Mammoth Mountain

With seven terrain parks, and two halfpipes (22’ and 18’), Mammoth Mountain is the place to go for jumps, hits, ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, rails, halfpipes, quarter pipes, snowcross, bump terrain, and pretty much anything you want to try on a snowboard or skis! The Unbound Main Park is where pros first started honing their skills in the 90’s, but there are plenty of other places to play including, Forest Trail, South Park, Unbound Playground, Wonderland Park, Disco Park and Jibs Galore.

Breckenridge

Breckenridge has a 22’ superpipe, as well as four award-winning terrain parks. The Freeway is where pros go to play, and includes the superpipe. Even if you aren’t up to actually trying this one out, it’s worth watching what people can do! Park Lane is for more intermediate levels, and Bonanza has plenty of features to let you get the hang of using a terrain park. They also have a park for little ones called Trygve’s. A great way to get young people motivated to be healthy and in-shape as they grow!

Big Bear and Snow Summit

A documentary called “Parkumentary” was made in 2009 to celebrate 20 years of terrain parks at Big Bear and Snow Summit. They say the first terrain parks were built in the late 80’s by a few guys with shovels. The resorts have advanced parks, as well as more family-friendly parks for beginners to try out.
