Big Mountain vs. Small Mountain Resort Lodging

Going skiing and snowboarding is an activity loved by many, both locals and travelers alike. And everyone seems to have preferences with how they like to do things; which resorts to ski at, where to stay, where to eat, and how to travel. Of course, there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. It’s just a matter of preference. Here are some pros and cons of staying in big mountain resort lodging verses small mountain resort lodging.

Big Mountain Ski Resort Lodging

Pros

Big mountain resorts usually have lodging right at the base of the mountain. This kind of lodging essentially allows you to walk right out of your hotel and into the lift lines. It couldn’t be any more convenient. You usually have access to a lot of amenities close by like restaurants, equipment rentals, and any activities occurring at the resort like festivals. There is no need to have a rental car or worry about transportation if you are coming from out of town.

Cons

You are generally going to pay a higher price to stay right at the resort. Surrounding hotels and rental properties may offer better deals. They also may have more to offer and the rentals may feel more like a home than a hotel room. They also may have better views as they could be sitting farther away than the resorts at the base of the mountain.

Small Mountain Ski Resort Lodging

Pros

Smaller resorts are naturally going to have smaller lodging. Many of the same pros and cons will exist at a smaller resort when it comes to lodging. The pros of staying at and skiing at a smaller resort are smaller crowds. If you prefer fewer people, less hustle and bustle, and more remote skiing, smaller resorts are for you.

Cons

Smaller resorts don’t have as many runs to choose from and they may be off the beaten path. If you want to access a resorts right off the interstate, a small resort might not be for you. Smaller resorts don’t draw the same crowds so extra activities like concerts and festivals won’t be as high profile as at a larger resort.

Clearly, there are lots of pros and cons to big and small resorts and big and small ski resort lodging. It’s really a matter of preference, and we are here to help you find deals on lodging no matter what you are looking for.
