Nordic Valley Update

Utah's Nordic Valley is Building a 4.3 Mile-Long Gondola

The new management team of a small ski resort, Nordic Valley, located in Ogden Valley, Utah is thinking big with a planned 4.3 mile-long gondola that will put the facility on the map. Once the plans are brought to fruition, it will be the longest gondola in the world. With plans to have it completed by 2020, the ski lift will connect the towns of North Ogden and Eden allowing skiers to bypass the 11-mile car journey through Nordic Valley to reach those destinations.

The ski lift is only part of Nordic Valley’s planned expansion. The new owners, Mountain Capital Partners, plan on expanding into 2,800 acres of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This project will be the first major expansion of a ski resort in Utah since the 2002 Winter Olympics. It will encompass an area of the Wasatch Mountains between Ogden and North Ogden canyons. The project will create an intermediate ski area that will complement the neighboring ski resorts of Powder Mountain and Snowbasin.

James Coleman, CEO of Mountain Capital Partners, envisions Nordic Valley as becoming a national go-to destination that will benefit the local economy while having the area maintain its pristine character. “You are not going to clear-cut a mountain of trees. We have a lot of experience with this.” Coleman asserted. His long-term plans include an addition of a dozen lifts to both the east and west sides of the mountain, adding one new lift each year.

The surrounding Nordic Valley area is currently served by lodging and amenities located in proximity to the nearby Powder Mountain Resort and Snowbasin. Powder Mountain has been selected by readers of Ski Magazine as the #1 ski resort for the best value in the US. Encompassing 7,000 acres, the popular facility offers terrain for all skill levels and ages.

For 60 years, Snowbasin has remained the best-kept secret among skiers and snowboarders- until now. It’s involvement in the 2002 winter Olympics changed all that. Tucked away in the bucolic Cache National Forest of the Wasatch Mountain Range. Snowbasin resides on 3,300 acres with over 100 ski runs. From novice to expert, Snowbasin has something for everybody including affordable pricing for lodging and all amenities.

The area offers a variety of lodging options ranging from hotel rooms, condos, private homes and motels all within easy reach of both the Snowbasin and Powder Mountain facilities. Take advantage of great savings with affordable lodging at Day’s Inn of Clearfield with rates as low as $55 per night.
