Incredible Views with Eats at the Lunch Rock in Winter Park

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Winter Park Resort in Colorado is gifting itself with a new Lunch Rock Restaurant in the Mary Jane Territory. The (estimated) $8M facility will feature year-round outdoor and indoor seating and will stay true to the tradition of the Mary Jane culture by fitting within the environment atop of the territory, according to Winter Park.

At 16,000-square-feet, the facility will be the resort’s largest building on mountain – the biggest construction in over 25 years – and will increase its capacity by five times more than the older building built two and a half decades ago. The rustic-themed yet state-of-the-art construction will seat 250 guests inside, and an additional 150 diners on the outdoor deck, with more room for guests to gather around the hydration station, 28-seat bar and store.

The building is designed to blend in its pristine environment, not fight against it, and to provide a place of intermission for avid bowl skiers and riders. Consistent with the resort’s environment-friendly approach, construction materials include steel, re-purposed wood, pine beetle kill and stone. And to the delight of Mary Jane lovers all over the world, the Lunch Rock will maintain its world-famous 11,200 ft. view of the Continental Divide, the Fraser Valley, Parry Peak, James Peak and the Parsenn Bowl.

Construction of the new digs is well underway, and they have surpassed 70% completion. Demolition of the previous Lunch Rock began in April prior to the end of the ski season, and the grand opening of the new building is planned for late November, early December – just in time for Winter Park’s 75th Anniversary celebration.

This season marks the resort’s 75th anniversary year of Winter Park Resort operations, the longest run for a continually-operated ski resort in Colorado. The Anniversary theme of “The Season of the Seven” focuses on seven territories that make up this favored destination: Winter Park, Mary Jane, Terrain Park, Eagle Wind, The Cirque, Vasquez Ridge, and Parsenn Bowl. With more than $50M invested in the resort in the last five years in developing the Village, a tubing hill, triple chair lift, six-pack panoramic express lift and replacing rental equipment, Winter Park is prepping for a 75th Anniversary celebration that sure to please the crowd.
