Jackson Hole has it all, and this is why it’s held the #1 spot on the list for the fifth year in a row. Forbes’ ranks the resorts by their overall ski experience, which takes into account a range of amenities and features – skiable acres, terrain, amount of snow, lift efficiency and much more. Jackson Hole scored almost a perfect score in the magazine’s “Pure Awesomeness Factor” category for good reason. The 2016 honor was awarded for the amount of snowfall – averaging nearly 460 inches – as it was for overall ski experience.

Freeriders and skiers of all levels can challenge themselves on some of the most difficult terrain on the continent, the birthplace of freeskiing. Jackson Hole’s two mountains in the Tetons offer a vast 2,500 acres of wild beauty and an extreme 4,139-foot vertical drop. The gate-accessed backcountry sprawls for more than 3,000 acres. Jackson also provides intermediate and beginner skiers and riders with a choice among more than 20 miles of impeccably-groomed runs, and expert ski instruction.

The magazine ranked another prominent Wyoming ski resort, Grand Targhee #9 with an A grade on the “Pure Awesomeness Factor”. Aside from the snowfall, the resorts 600+ acres of cat skiing lent to its overall awesomeness rating.

This year, a ski trip to Wyoming would be timely as Jackson Hole Mountain Resort  2015-16 ski season has a slew of 50th Year Celebration upgrades – a new high speed quad, expanded terrain and new on-mountain dining. Despite all of the resort upgrades, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort stays true to form and its reputation for being all about the mountain, and the wilderness. The variety of off-hill recreational options abound; sleigh rides, fat-bike adventures, national park tours are all within easy access to the resort. And Jackson Hole’s après is punctuated by its nod to its cowboy beginnings.

One of the former owners of Jackson Hole described the resort as a “diamond in the raw”, which it truly is. If you haven’t visited, plan to visit soon, before the word – and the crowds – unleash.
