Ski & Ride Through Memorial Day and Beyond at Arapahoe Basin

The mild days and blue skies of spring take nothing away from the great snow conditions at the legendary Arapahoe Basin in Colorado. Known for its long ski season, often being the first ski area in the country to open for the season and the last to close, half the mountain is above tree line with open bowl skiing and snowboarding offered until early summer.

The off-beat culture at A-Basin contribute to the spring shenanigans with a full calendar packed with concerts, races, and festivals that take place in an area officially designated as “The Beach.” Come each spring, the parking lot at the base of the mountain is transformed into an eclectic scene of lawn chairs, BBQ’ing, tailgating and vibrant costumes.

The Early Riser lot opens by 7:00 AM and other than the top spots, the rest are first-come, first-served. The Beach is easily accessible between runs because it spans the distance between three chairlifts. But you have to get on it if you want to reserve a premium spot, one of 15, each outfitted with two parking spots and its own picnic table. Early reservations can be made through the resort.

The party takes place daily starting with first chair and continuing on well into après – a scene that’s uniquely Basin-esque. It’s a good time for all involved. The weekends bring on birthday parties, company tailgates and more flamboyant costumes.

There are a few more perks that go along with the great crowd and all the hoopla. Music events are always free and family friendly during the afternoons in the base area. In addition, free transportation is available via the Summit Stage bus that runs from all towns in Summit County to A-Basin on the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), through May 29th.

So ski and ride at Arapahoe Basin through Memorial Day and into June this year, shred friends, as the last run is planned for June 5th.
