Alaska

Let’s face it, America’s Last Frontier is more than amazing skiing, it’s some of the best in the world. Alaska has 17 of the highest mountains in the U.S., the longest river in the U.S. at 2,000 miles long, and an estimated 100,000 glaciers. In addition, Alaska has over 6,500 miles of coastland. And as much as we love winter sports and activities, Alaska truly is one of our top vacation destinations.

Alaska is a great place for hitting a pipe, riding a rail, and skiing the slopes. Heli-ski action, snowboarding, snowcat rides, snowshoeing, bowls and chutes are available in Alaska for beginning and advanced skiers and riders. Winter vacations can be taken up a notch with heli-skiing. Instead of just driving to a resort, go and ski where only helicopters and snowcats can take you.

Resort Skiing

Alyeska Resort sits in the glacier carved valley of Girdwood, an hour east of Anchorage. To the west and north, the mountains of the Chugach State Park are home to 495,000 acres, the third largest U.S. state park. What a stunning view from the Alyeska Resort. Offering traditional ski and snowboard action, with an annual snowfall of about 631 inches and a vertical drop of 2,500 feet to rival any resort down “south” on the mainland. The 1,400 skiable acres and 73 runs offer something for every skier. The nine lifts keep you from waiting in lines, and the beginner runs keep new skiers from feeling intimidating or rushed; however most runs are designated for the intermediate skier.

Heli-Ski

Located just four hours from Alyeska, Valdez offers a top heli-ski destination for extreme skiers and outdoor enthusiasts who want to hit the powder without that resort and ski-lift mentality. Valdez’ heli-ski tours are for the advanced, expert skiers, who wish to experience 5,000 foot vertical drop over rough terrain and untamed snows. Experienced mountain guides lead small groups on heli-ski trips, with the only requirement being advanced ski skills and nerves of steel.
