Virginia has a bit of everything—lively cities, rich history, stunning beaches, and breathtaking mountains. Perhaps not particularly famous for its ski resorts, Virginia offers locals and visitors alike great skiing without having to go far. The ski area run the gamut from quaint and simple mom and pops establishments to high-end, luxury resorts.

What Makes Virginia Unique

Virginia is not known as a ski resort state, which is perfect for those looking to avoid the hassle found at larger resorts with their long lines, crowded slopes and outrageous prices. Virginia offers beautiful resorts, great skiing for all experience levels, and a plethora of family-friendly fun which makes it a hidden gem in the world of ski resorts.

Major Ski Resorts

In all there are four major ski resorts in Virginia. Bryce Resort is one of the more popular ski resorts in the state, providing plenty of skiing and snowboarding in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Massanutten is also located in the Shenandoah Valley, and features a small amount of trails perfect for beginners and young skiers and snowboarders. Wintergreen Resort is one of the larger resorts in the state, featuring 11 acres of skiing and snowboarding, as well as various other snow-related activities, including tubing parks and terrain parks. The Homestead in Hot Springs is one of the nicer resorts in the state and offers luxury accommodation and a host of winter activities.

Vacation Coupons

The lodging at the ski areas offers various options available and at each resort, there are rustic inns, historic lodges and hotels, romantic bed and breakfasts, spacious modern condos and fantastic vacation homes. There are deeply discounted ski and stay packages throughout the winter at many of these accommodations that are definitely worth checking out. In addition to great lodging options, Virginia offers a wide variety of dining and après-ski options, as well as fabulous shopping and an energetic live music scene.
