Timberline Ski Vacation Guide

Timberline Ski Resort is located in Canaan Valley, West Virginia and provides avid skiers with some of the most well-groomed runs in the state. Timberline prides itself on providing skiers with an all around incredible ski experience. The trails are challenging and diverse, the staff is friendly and experienced, and the runs are fierce, fast, and fun.

Ski Levels

Timberline Resort features over 100 acres of skiable land and 1000 feet of vertical rise. Timberline also has 100% snowmaking ability, but with an average snowfall of 200 inches, it hardly seems necessary. The area features 36 runs, 34 percent beginner, 32 percent intermediate, 14 percent advanced, and 20 percent expert.

There is a fantastic ski school at Timberline that offers classes for all experience and age levels and is taught by highly trained instructors using the rigorous teaching system developed by the PSIA. The mountain also has over 17 km of cross-country skiing terrain, perfect for those looking for an intense workout or maybe a leisurely tour across the mountain.

Off the Slopes

Located near the town of Davis and surrounded by the gorgeous Canaan Valley, Timberline Resort offers plenty of great food and après ski options. Locals recommend heading to the Blackwater Brewing Company and the Golden Anchor Restaurant, two off-site locations that are known for fantastic food and drinks. Timber’s Pub and Grill is located slope side for those who don’t want to venture too far from the action. Muttley’s Downtown Pub is Davis’ hottest late night hangout.

Timberline is easily accessed by car, located about 3 hours away from Charleston and 3.5 hours away from Washington DC, Route 32 will take drivers to the doorstep of the Timberline Resort. Those looking to fly in will want to head to the International Airports of Washington DC or Pittsburgh.

Riders Guide

Timberline Resort is described as one of the best snowboarding spots in the South, providing boarders with plenty of land and plenty of air. Timberline Resort in Canaan Valley, West Virginia has over 100 acres of land as well as 100% snowmaking ability, but with more than 200 inches of snow annually, it hardly seems necessary. There are 36 slopes and trails, 34% beginner, 32% intermediate, 14% advanced, and 20% expert. Over 1000 feet of vertical drop translates into serious speed, especially on the Salamander, Timberline’s massive 2 mile run.

Parks and Pipes

Timberline features two terrain parks complete with rails, boxes, and jumps. Snowboarders interested in showing off what they’ve got can participate in one of the four different Rail Jam competitions put on by the park throughout the season.

Out of Bounds

There are ski and snowboard lessons available, taught by experienced instructors whose goal is to help teach the fundamentals and hone specific skills. The resort also features over 17 km of cross-country skiing, which offers a nice, leisurely alternative to boarding.

Hangout & Hookup

Locals recommend heading to the Blackwater Brewing Company and the Golden Anchor Restaurant, located 7 miles from the resort in Davis. The perfect après-ski drinks and entertainment can be found at the Port Side Pub and at Muttley’s Downtown Pub, both located close to the mountain, and if you don’t want to get too far from the action check out Timber’s Pub, a slope side restaurant and bar that features karaoke and live entertainment on the weekends.
