Granby Ranch Ski Vacation Guide

Granby Ranch (formerly known as SolVista Basin) is only 15 minutes away from another top ski resort, Winter Park. This makes the area an ideal place for skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, and enjoying all sorts of winter sports.

Ski Levels

The 33 trails feature runs for beginners and even areas set aside from brand new skiers, as well as runs for advanced skiers, with the top run stretching almost 2.5 miles. The East Mountain is designated for new to the sport and intermediate level skiers and the West Mountain is reserved for more advanced skiers. New skiers or those wanting to improve can enroll in the ski school. Rentals are available for skiers, snowboarders, snowshoes, and cross-country skiers so all can enjoy the mountain.

Après Ski

Near the Rocky Mountain National Park, families will enjoy in this area tremendously. Denver is less than two hours away and nearby small mountain towns are host to shopping and fine dining. The area offers a huge variety of dining from steak and seafood to pizza. You'll find a homey bar and grill serving up the typical fare and a grill offering Mediterranean. The many retail shops will help you with gear and ski rentals, and you'll find plenty of local souvenir shops as well. A great place for après ski is the fire pit at the base of the mountain. It's a family atmosphere with cocoa and a sense of community, while Seven Trails offers drinks, cocktails, and other treats. The Coffee Station provides quick breakfast items and muffins as well as your caffeine kick.

In addition, the Rocky Mountain National Park is often closed to traffic from this side of the pass, but is still not a far drive. Kids can become Junior Rangers and experience a variety of activities. A Children's Center at the Base Camp is also a great place for kids who love snow sports and the mountain atmosphere. Granby Ranch is a great place for families and anyone who wants to enjoy skiing and snowboarding in a low-pressure, easygoing atmosphere.

Granby Ranch Snowboard Vacation Guide

Rider’s Guide

Enjoy 33 trails over 406 skiable acres. The area gets 220 inches of snowfall a year and features slopes for beginners, as well as for the more advanced skiers. The longest run is just shy of 2.5 miles long, and there’s a separate area for first-time skiers to remove the intimidation and pressure of being surrounded with experts. Half of the slopes are classified as beginner, so it’s a great place for new or less-experienced skiers. The West Mountain is reserved for the more advanced, with moguls and steeper terrain.

Parks and Pipes

The terrain park is designed for beginners. There’s a half-pipe and the entire park is lift-serviced. Because the resort area is designed for beginner and families, there are fewer features here than at other resorts. All runs on the mountain end up in the same place at the base, so it’s all a very centralized park. A snow play park is available for kids.

Out of Bounds

Snowshoeing and skiing are the wintertime activities here, with nearby Winter Park offering up more snowsports. Night skiing and snow tubing are popular. The nearby Rocky Mountain National Park offers outdoor activities designed for families and kids.

Hangout & Hookup

There are grills for après ski drinks and dining with a variety of fare available from standard pub and grill food to slightly fancier dishes. A fire pit at the base of the mountain is the family hot spot, where families and friends meet up to enjoy hot cocoa and talk of the day’s adventures on the slopes. The management likes to classify the resort as designed for those who prefer to be fueled by cocoa instead of adrenaline, so the family atmosphere is evident everywhere you go.
