Ski Experience – Alpine Valley

Alpine Valley is a family-friendly  resort that caters to the locals, rather than the tourist. This is great for many reasons including the laid back feel and relaxed atomosphere. In addition, it makes for a great day trip for some skiing and snowboarding at a great price.

Ski Levels

It's the largest, most scenic ski resort in southern Michigan, with 25 slopes, mostly geared toward the beginner to intermediate skier. In addition, there are three terrain parks for beginners and experts alike, with more room in their parks than any other resorts in the area. The hill at Alpine is man-made and there is snowmaking ability for the entire resort. This shows you it's a smaller hill, but still the longest run is 2,000 feet, providing you with plenty of room to enjoy a day of skiing. There are also great snowboarding and ski competitions like the Huck Finn competitions, the Cardboard Classic event and Scout Day, all just in January and February.

Après Ski

There are lounges available that are the perfect après-ski spots with cocktails, dancing and live entertainment. There's also a beautiful view of the slopes from one lounge. as well as dining where you can enjoy home-style food and beverages. There are a variety of other restaurants and lounges in the area that offer everything from Asian dining to a down home grill, burger, and bar fare.

Visitors to Alpine Valley might want to branch out to Detroit for a day of sightseeing and tourism. The zoo, museums and attractions, as well as shops and dining. The Detroit Science Center is a great place to take kids to experience nature and science hands-on. The Detroit Institute of Arts is a premier art institute in North America and definitely one you don't want to miss on a cultural and fun trip. They have kids' concerts in the evenings in a large hall where suits of armor ring the walls, giving it an old-world atmosphere. The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is a fun place for kids to enjoy touching and getting involved with history. And the Guernsey Farm Dairy takes you on a tour of a dairy farm topped off by an ice cream cone made from the very cows you've just seen. Ice Skating at Campus Martius is a fun wintertime activity for families. And hit the library for free passes to Cranbrook Planetarium so the kids can look at the stars.
