Riders Guide – Salmo Ski Hill is a volunteer run ski hill where guests can enjoy some great British Columbia skiing. Some people think of a volunteer community run ski hill and automatically assume that the quality won’t be there, but at Salmo, you’ll see quite a difference. The area gets about 10 feet of snowfall a year and has a good vertical drop of just over 1,100 feet. The base elevation is 2,100 feet with a top peak at 3,100 feet. Because Salmo is surrounded by larger and more famous resorts and so few people know about Salmo, there are rarely if ever lift lines. Guests can enjoy maximum time on the mountain. About 40% of the area is designed for advanced skiers and about 30% are reserved for beginners and intermediate skiers. There is night skiing and some of the slopes are actually very steep with moguls and racing courses, but the beginner slopes are bunny hills that are suitable for kids.




Parks and Pipes – The Salmo Ski Hill does have a halfpipe for snowboarders, there is not a terrain park, but riders will be able to get some great air and tricks in on the halfpipe.




Out of Bounds – Salmo has a day lodge, its own restaurant and pub and a variety of shops where guests can purchase or rent equipment as well as take lessons. Most lodging is either at Salmo or in nearby Trail or Castlegar, and many of those hotels also have restaurants and bars as well as a variety of amenities for you to enjoy. One of the most popular activities at Salmo is the night skiing on well-lit and groomed runs. There is also cross-country skiing and areas for snowboarders.




Hangout & Hookup – Because it’s a volunteer run ski hill with a ski school and bunny slopes for kids, Salmo Hill is a great place for families. That means the nightlife might not be quite as exciting as in some other areas but there are a variety of pubs and restaurants in the nearby villages and towns for adult guests to enjoy.




The Deal – Salmo Ski Hill is in the Kootenays just one and a half miles south of the town of Salmo. It’s only about 28 miles away from Castlegar and 31 miles away from Nelson. Buses do run in the area and it’s an easy trip from Calgary international Airport by car.
