Ski Tabor Mountain, BC
Tabor Mountain Ski Resort is not as well-known as places like Whistler or Mt. Tremblant, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on the list of fantastic ski resorts in British Columbia. Only 15 minutes away from the northern BC hub city of Prince George, Tabor Mountain is one of the closest mountains to the city. It’s also a mountain that caters mainly to intermediate skiers but still has plenty of trails for beginners and experts alike. There may only be 13 trails, but one lasts for a full 2 miles down the mountain and offers a great challenge for all skiers. 50% of the trails are rated as intermediate and the rest are split evenly between beginner and advanced slopes. The 800 foot vertical drop isn’t as impressive as some other mountains in the area but with the two-mile run it proves impressive enough for serious skiers and riders.
Dining in the area is a smorgasbord of variety with many international restaurants that serve Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Italian and other fare as well as Mediterranean and local cuisine. Fast food chains as well as fine dining are available in Prince George. Located slope side, for added convenience, guests can enjoy cafeteria and café food as well as snacks on the mountain. Being the major hub, Prince George has all the basic amenities as well as great shopping, dining, lodging and a great resort town atmosphere to boot.
The ski school at Tabor Mountain specializes in helping people of all ages learn to ski and snowboard. The mountain is well known for hosting the Chiller Program that takes children and supplies them with everything they need to learn to snowboard. It’s a program designed to teach them essential snowboarding basics as well as a thing or two about riding park. They also have a great racing program as well as snowboardcross. The Ski Cross Fun Club is a great club where racers have the opportunity to practice and master Tabor Mountain’s beginner course, which features gentle rollers, bumps and jumps, all the while working on improving racing and terrain skills
Prince George is the northern British Columbian hub town and convenient for winter sports enthusiasts because of the many ski resorts that surround it. Tabor Mountain is located only 15 minutes from town, which means that guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a thrilling day on the slopes followed by the quintessential alpine après ski experience at one of Prince George’s many lounges, taverns and entertainment venues. Riders Guide – Tabor Mountain Ski Resort and Bike Park is only 12.5 miles from Prince George, just off the Yellowhead TransCanada Highway. There are over 180 skiable acres and 12 trails with the majority designed for intermediate skiers. The vertical drop is 800 feet, which is great for beginners and mellow riders. There are two lifts, a triple chair and a T-bar, which can handle 1,500 skiers per hour. Half of the trails at Tabor Mountain are designed for intermediate skiers. The other half are split evenly between beginner and advanced trails.
Parks and Pipes – The terrain park at Tabor Mountain is ideal for those just learning to ride park. The features are on the smaller side and mostly natural. They are great for practice and for honing specific park skills. The terrain park features a good number of jumps, jibs, rails and many others that are built throughout the season depending on snow conditions.
Out of Bounds – There are over 20 km of groomed cross-country trails for cross country ski enthusiasts. But the majority of things to do can be found in Prince George, which is a place designed for skiers and riders and offers the best amenities and entertainment in the area. It’s the quintessential British Columbian town replete with quaint shops and restaurants, as well as luxurious accommodations.
Hangout & Hookup – Taverns, pubs, restaurants with lounges and entertainment venues are available in Prince George or visitors can enjoy the day lodge at Tabor Mountain. Après ski can range from a quiet and quirky café to local haunts and chic lounges. Since Prince George is a well-established ski town, there is always plenty of activities and events happening during the season.
The Deal – Only 15 minutes from Prince George, Tabor Mountain is convenient and located smack in the center of world-renowned British Columbian ski country. Down Highway 16 from the Edmonton turn off, visitors can either drive to Prince George or enjoy convenient shuttles and buses that run back and forth regularly. Because the area is a very popular ski tourist spot, there’s a variety of transportation available. Prince George is a very accessible and walker friendly city.
