Come explore what this inexpensive winter vacation area has to offer. Activities include alpine skiing, advanced back-country skiing, snowcat skiing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, ice climbing, ice skating, sledding, snowshoe hikes, and snowmobiling. The area is truly one of Colorado's best kept secrets and is a great alternative to expensive winter resorts. Just six miles from the town of Silverton and 30 miles from Ouray, Silverton Mountain offers extreme skiing at its finest.

Extreme Skiing

The resort is new and is open to only expert and advanced skiers and snowboarders. It was once only known for its incredible snowcat skiing and snowboarding and now has one double chairlift accessing the steepest, most adventure filled skiing. Still, a major draw to the area for the adventurous is snow cat skiing and heli-skiing. Note that the area tour guides and operators require advanced reservations. In addition, Durango ski area, once known as Purgatory, is only 20 miles away. Kendall Mountain Ski Area is located right in Silverton and offers great beginner skiing and numerous family activities. Getting Here

Silverton and Ouray are just an hours drive from Durango's airport and Telluride's regional airport. Enjoy the drive up Hwy 550 or take the historic train.
