Find Your Ski Area:

Telluride

Conde Naste Traveler magazine has ranked Telluride as the number one ski resort in the nation. That's a great endorsement for the authentic 19th century western mining town. Updated for the demanding tastes of the 21st Century outdoor enthusiast, it was once a well-kept secret among hardcore skiers and riders. The Prospect Bowl expansion is now playing in the major resort league. Yet, the 12-block long town with stunning Victorian homes, an opera house, and lively saloons, still maintains a special small town character.

The Best Kept Secret

On the slopes, 1,855 acres of delicious terrain awaits, from back-country steeps to gentle learning slopes, with a plethora of fast lifts and friendly service to meet your needs. The area gets 300 inches of snow a year along with 300 days of sunshine. And while it has been ranked number one ski area, it remains less crowded than most resorts, giving your family room to spread out and enjoy the mountain. The advanced skiers will love the additional areas you can hike to, just 10-30 minute hike from the lifts to more back country skiing. More information regarding this area is found at Ski Experience and Terrain Parks.

Off the Slopes

From the town, visitors can hop on the free gondola to the Mountain Village and ski lifts. You don't need a car here because the gondola runs 17 hours each day. At the Mountain Village, guests enjoy a traditional ski resort village with interesting restaurants and shops. Off the slopes, there are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy, from dog sledding tours to trips to the hot springs, or perhaps a little ice skating or guided excursions by horseback, for something a little different. There's something about a hike or snowshoe walk to an authentic mining ghost town that sets a vacation well above the ordinary experience. If you prefer, the resort offers van accessed hiking adventures with guide and lunch provided. Whether your choice is a quaint B&B, an elegant full-service hotel or a fully-equipped slopeside condo or private home, this vacation town has you covered.

Getting Here

Major airlines fly into the Telluride Airport or nearby Montrose Regional Airport. From the airports, reasonably priced shuttle services are available to whisk you to your accommodations. The area is just two and a half hours from Durango and about six from both Colorado Springs and Sante Fe. What a beautiful drive through the San Juan Mountains.
