Red Mountain Resort - Rossland

Tucked high in the Monashee Mountains, nestled in the crater of an ancient volcano, Rossland is Canada’s Alpine City. Hilly streets, loads of winter snow and great views make Rossland a natural destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Voted Canada's Best Ski Town

Many travelers and vacationers come here, fall under the spell of the mountains and become skiers, snowboarders and outdoor adventurers of every sort. Ski Canada Magazine voted Rossland to be Canada’s Best Ski Town. Rossland is home to some of the best alpine and cross country skiing in British Columbia. Just 1.8 miles (3 kms) from downtown Rossland, Red Resort is blessed with snow falls that exceed 300 inches (750 cm) per year. The two mountains, Red and Granite, that make up Red Resort provide 1,585 skiable acres. Both mountains have ski trails 360 degrees around providing a virtually endless number of runs with each descent. Red Resort has a total of 4,200 acres encompassing over 88 runs, 6 lifts and 2,909 feet (2,072 meters) of vertical drop. The resort’s terrain park has more than 20 rails, funboxes and tabletop jumps with features suitable for all levels of ability. Red Resort offers fully licensed day care, restaurants, equipment rentals, lockers and FREE guided tours with the Snowhosts. The staff at the Welcome Center will be happy to help skiers, snowboarders, and outdoor enthusiasts make the most of your Red Resort holiday.

The Big Red Cat ski area offers some of the best accessed powder skiing in the world. The two cat ski pick up points are just 10 and 20 minutes from the base of Red Resort. Be sure to spend a day at what could be the best “ski tracks per acre ratio” of any cat skiing operation in the world with about 18,000 acres of terrain and just one cat. No lines and no crowds!

Off the Slopes

Rossland has a population of under 4000 people with no traffic lights or sprawling malls. What the town does offer is great lodging, shopping, apres ski and winter outdoor activities. Winter vacation and holiday fun includes down hill skiing, cross country skiing, climbing, snow cat skiing, backcountry tours, snowshoe tours, heli skiing, guided adventures, sledding and freeskiing clinics among others. For unusual apres ski diversions, there are dog sleds to ride, an indoor aquatic center, countless miles of scenic cross country trails to glide on, new people to meet and of course, great cuisine to enjoy!

The town has a surprising number of excellent restaurants and pubs to choose from making this the dining mecca of the Kootenays! The diverse variety of fine culinary and dining experiences ranging from simple to elegant will satisfy any taste and budget. As for lodging and accommodations, Rossland offers everything from bed and breakfast inns, hotels, motels and vacation rentals to cheap hostels, camping, and RV parks.
