Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort

Tennessee has an enjoyable ski resort, Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort & Amusement Park, in the heart of the Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee, where the Smokies meet the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.

Strong Ski History

For over 30 years, Ober Gatlinburg has operated the largest aerial tram in the country. The tram has carried more than 18 million passengers to date, 125 at a time, in two counter-balanced cars that run between downtown Gatlinburg and the mountain resort. The resort added two cars made of aerospace aluminum in April of 2007. With 15 percent more window space, those breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountains are better than ever.

When you reach the mountain, you're in for a few more pleasant surprises. There's an indoor mall and amusement park at the resort featuring a huge indoor ice skating rink. The resort is spread over two mountains and here your family will enjoy tubing (ages 3-5 can ride with an adult), the kids can take lessons from the certified instructors, and the Cub Way and Ski School areas give your kids a great place to learn and play. Your older kids and adults will be able to experience quality skiing at all times of the season because the resort is able to make snow on all of its nine trails. In addition, there is a great terrain park for your more advanced riders. The resort increased the number of rails and boxes, and added table tops and spines to give you an extra challenge. The park crew is proud to keeping the features groomed and up to date.

Getting Here

Fly into nearby Knoxville and head over to Gatlinburg. During the winter months the road to Gatlinburg can be closed but just head into Gatlinburg and take the tram from downtown at Parkway Street and LeConte Street.
