Beech Mountain

Touted as the highest resort in Eastern America, Beech Mountain Resort boasts stats and snowfall that would make some resorts in New England blush. While North Carolina isn’t world-renowned for its skiing and snowboarding, it has several resorts that shouldn’t be taken for granted. Beech Mountain is one of those mountains.

All Around On-Mountain Fun

The resort offers both day and night snow skiing and snowboarding, 100 percent snowmaking, as well as snowtubing and ice skating. Plus the resort houses a western-style, alpine ski village complete with boutique shopping, unique art galleries, and fantastic views that are best enjoyed while sipping cocoa in one of the cafes. In fact, the intriguing mix of southern hospitality, alpine charm and modern comfortable amenities makes Beech Mountain a thoroughly impressive ski vacation destination.

As the highest East Coast ski resort, the village is situated at 4,675 feet, the summit tops out at 5,506 feet. The mountain has nine runs on the front side and double-sided runs on the mountain’s backside. In total, the resort has 95 acres, 15 runs (2 beginner, 7 intermediate, 4 advanced, and 2 freestyle runs), more than 10 lifts, and two terrain parks. The resort averages over 120 inches of snow each year and boasts 100 percent snowmaking capacity, which ensures that trail conditions will be in optimal capacity throughout the entire season. Things to Do

The idyllic and picturesque Alpine Village at Beech is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and spend some time off the slopes. There is a host of amenities available, including daycare, lockers, rental and repair shops, and more. At the resort, there is a wonderful 7,000-square-foot ice skating rink located in the center of the village. Shopaholics should head to Tanger Outlet Center Shoppes in Blowing Rock. There is also the Boone Mall and the historic Mast General Store in Valle Crucis.

For added convenience, there is bountiful slope-side lodging available and as an additional bonus, Beech offers many great specials on ski vacation packages with discounts on lodging, lift tickets, and more each season. The accommodations at Beech range from casual country inns and well-appointed condos to romantic mountainside chalets and rustic lodges. Many of the options are well within walking distance from the resort. Additionally there is a great range of eateries slope side, from casual cafeteria style nosh to high-end candlelit dinners.

Getting Here

The resort is accessible from the Charlotte, Greensboro, and Tennessee airports, from there it is necessary to rent a car through one of the major companies. Beech Mountain Resort can be accessed from I-77, I-81, I-85, I-26 and I-40. The resort is located off of NC 184.
