Belleayre Mountain

In 1885, Belleayre Mountain was declared “forever wild” by the New York State Forest Preserve. Since that time it has maintained its wild edge by providing skiers and snowboarders with a range of exciting terrain, New York’s only cat-accessed skiing and snowboarding, as well as a vision focused firmly on future improvements.

Nestled in the pristine woodlands of the Catskills, Belleayre is an excellent option for skiers and riders seeking challenging terrain, gorgeous scenery and a chance to get away from it all. The mountain spans over 170 acres and boasts more than 50 runs of varying ability levels, 22% beginner, 58% intermediate, and 20% expert and advanced. The downhill terrain is greatly varied and promises challenges to every level of skier and rider. For more adventurous skiers and riders, there are 5 glades replete with moguls and trees. For freestylers, Belleayre boasts one terrain park with a variety of jumps, jibs, boxes and flats to explore as well as a sizeable halfpipe. Belleayre Mountain has spent the last 60 years evolving from its humble beginnings into an efficient and growing organization with state-of-the-art snowmaking, updated lifts and continual improvement in other areas.

In addition to great terrain they also have fantastic deals on multi-day passes, discounted lift tickets and affordable ski and snowboard lessons. Throughout the season Belleayre offers fantastic ski and snowboard lessons for children aged four and up. These all day lessons include rentals, lift ticket, lunch and general supervision. The professional instructors help first timers to feel comfortable and confident on the mountain, teach them fundamental skills, but above all, cultivate a lifelong love of snow sports.

There are several base lodges at the resort that house the majority of goods and services at Belleayre. The great Discovery Lodge is found in the novice/beginner area. The resort has a full-service cafeteria, a sub shop, a ski shop, a ski school, the KidsCamp day program, and a first aid area. Overlook Lodge is the main lodge at the resort and includes a cafeteria, cocktail lounge, Blue Sky Sports Ski Shop, and ski school. The Sunset Lodge is located on the summit at 3,325 ft. The lodge offers skiers and snowboarders a place to relax and enjoy the views as well as some basic snacks.

There is not lodging located slope side, but there is an extensive list to choose from in the region. Many of the regions accommodations offer unbeatable ski and stay packages throughout the season which helps make a ski vacation to Belleayre even more enticing. From rustic cabins and cozy cottages to historic inns, romantic B&B’s and grand resorts, the Belleayre Mountain region in the Catskills has it all. For added convenience there are shuttle buses to the region from points in New York, New Jersey and Long Island. It’s only a few hours from New York City and mostly along major highways so it’s incredibly easy to access.
