Ski Experience - Gore Mountain

There probably aren't many skiers or snowboarders alive today who haven't heard of the magnificent Adirondacks or been mesmerized while watching the competitions from Whiteface and Gore Mountains. The region may have been a well-kept secret at one time, but since the 1980 Winter Olympics came to visit, the whole world knows how awesome a winter ski experience is in the Gore Mountain region. In fact, it's inarguably the best skiing east of the Rocky Mountains!

Ski Levels

From the warmth of the villages you encounter on your way up to the mountain, through the world-class slopes and award-winning aprés-ski offerings, you just know you've made the right choice as soon as you enter the Adirondacks, and every moment of your time thereafter just keeps on proving that hunch right. When on Whiteface, you're skiing the same slopes that Olympic champions have faced, rising to the same rich beauty and natural challenges. Nearby Gore Mountain, which is actually two mountains, (the lower Bear Mountain, with Gore as the higher peak) provides an alternative, even more trails to ply, and some real gems to be discovered on that journey.

Gore Mountain's trails are sure to please. Mostly intermediate and expert runs, you'll be able to enjoy extended runs down the mountain if you like, or stop halfway down, grab a bite to eat at the lodge, and head back up to push the edge again. There's a lot of mountain there, and with the snowmaker's ability to get to 95 percent of the trails, you can count on it being well groomed and fresh. The NY Ski Education Foundation sponsors the NASTAR Race Arena at Gore Mountain, providing age-handicapped dual slalom races, and a free race clinic every morning at 10:30 just before the course opens. Visitors can rise to the challenge every weekend from mid-December through the end of March. Everyone can compete, and all are winners for having had the experience.

Whiteface's terrain parks being chosen for the home of the 2007 snowboarding World Cup demonstrates that this region continues to compel, but without the overcrowding you're likely to find at some of the more popular Colorado ski resorts. The black diamond trails are sure to get your blood pumping and keep you paying attention the whole time. The sheer beauty of these rugged venerable mountains will keep serving up eye candy as well! Needless to say, the ski patrols are world-class as well. These seasoned and well-trained professionals will be watching out for your good time as well as your well being.

Après ski

When the day is done, it's time to treat yourself to the true warmth of Adirondack aprés-ski. Whether you're after a rowdy time full of libations and laughter, or a luxurious relaxing soak in a snow-side spa, your Adirondack and Lake Placid region hosts will do everything humanly possible to ensure that your winter ski experience is the best ever.

You're sure to make memories that will last a lifetime, as you explore the wonders and excitement of skiing on hallowed Olympic slopes.
