Ski Sundown

Located in the northwest corner of the state, about 20 miles from Hartford, is the winter escape known as Ski Sundown. Billed as a retreat from the frenzy of the nearby tri-state area, this resort is home to one of Connecticut’s best winter experiences. It’s a modest mountain resort but offers plenty of fun, excitement, and activities perfect for the entire family.

Local's Favorite

Ski Sundown is a perfect local mountain that is family friendly but also caters to groups, individuals, and couples. It’s a great, low-key place that offers tons of fun throughout the ski season. The mountain hosts a series of race programs, women’s clubs, lessons and camps for kids as well as other fun events and activities throughout the winter. The surrounding area is referred to as Farmington Valley, and it is chock full of exciting wintertime activities. Sledding, ice skating, sleigh rides are just a few of the many activities in and around the resort.

Off the Slopes

The lodge at Ski Sundown is the epicenter of activity off the mountain. Contained within the lodge is the resort’s Snowsports School, two self-serve cafeteria style areas, bar lounge, coin operated lockers and free storage cubicles, as well as a large area for sitting that overlooks the base of the ski area and has free Wi-Fi available.

From major hotel chains to picturesque locally owned inns that accommodate visitors of all stripes to and from the slopes, there is no shortage of accommodation options in the area. World-class art galleries, antique shops, and food and wine destinations will fill guest’s non-mountain hours with plenty of activity or, if visitors prefer, simply relax among the scenic lakeside atmosphere. There are several slopeside eateries, or head to nearby Hartford for a wider selection.

Getting Here

The area is incredibly accessible thanks to its proximity to Hartford, Connecticut. From Hartford it is approximately 40 minutes to the mountain, the resort is located close to US 44E on Ratlum Road. It’s a great place to experience all the excitement of winter.
