Kirkwood

Kirkwood is a quiet and peaceful resort tucked away from the commotion of South Lake Tahoe. Widely considered a hidden gem of the Sierras, it remains a local’s favorite and a powderhound's dream come true. It is ideal location on top of the Sierra Crest—a stunning 9,000 feet above sea level, optimal snow conditions with some of the most plentiful and driest powder in the area.

Mountain Training and Safety

There are 65 named trails are range from 15 percent beginner, 50 percent intermediate, and 35 percent expert and advanced terrain. There are more than a dozen lifts to transport guests around the mountain and to some of the best back country access sites in the Tahoe Basin. In keeping with their low-key, no-frills mantra, the resort offers some spectacular ski and stay packages throughout the season. The mountain has a unique assortment of backcountry skills courses. These lessons are not for the faint of heart and really only suitable for advanced level skiers. The resort employs highly trained professionals who take guests out of bounds to teach them back country familiarity clinics, avalanche safety and avoidance, beacon training, and Avalanche Certification Courses. The courses offer the invaluable opportunity to learn lifesaving skills, while navigating perilous back-country terrain.

Kirkwood also offers its visitors plenty of great services including childcare, spa facilities, rental and repair shops, affordable RV parking, etc. They also have a selection of standard and luxury accommodations within 100 yards of the slopes. Getting Here

There are several ways to reach Kirkwood, Reno-Tahoe International, Sacramento International as well as San Francisco International Airport are within driving distance. By car, Kirkwood is located about 14 miles from Hwy 89 on Hwy 88. There are also daily shuttle services from Reno and the Bay Area. Or check out the K-Pool page for great rideshare options.
