Mont Tremblant

Ever since North America's first snow train brought enthusiastic skiers here in 1927, the Laurentians has been well known as a winter sports playground. Less than an hour's drive northwest of Montreal, the Laurentides, as they are known in French, offer 14 alpine ski areas, each with their own, distinct character.

Ski Areas Galore!

From the old world, quiet dignified ambiance of Le Chantecler to the nonstop action of Mont Tremblant, there's a resort to fit every taste and budget. If you're just learning to ski or ride, some of the best learning centers in the world await you at many classic Quebec Canada ski resorts. Looking for lift-served backcountry adventures? Check out the relatively unknown Ski Morin Heights area. For variety, you can ski and ride five areas-Mont Avila, Mont Olympia, Morin Heights, Mont Saint-Sauveur and Mont Gabriel-on one reasonably priced ticket-since all these areas are owned by the same company.

But perhaps the greatest Laurentian treasure trove are the independently owned undiscovered gems, many of which are family owned and operated. Each has its own fiercely loyal clientele. Experts prefer rugged Mont Alta, with its limited grooming policy, while families flock to the uncrowded, friendly slopes of Belle Neige, Valle Bleu, Mont Habitant and L'Avalanche. For unusual apres ski diversions, there are working maple sugar shacks to visit, dog sleds to ride, snowmobiles to rent, indoor aqua parks to swim through, countless miles of scenic cross country trails to glide on, new people to meet and of course, great cuisine to enjoy.
