Big Bear

Big Bear Mountain Resort is located in the town of Big Bear Lake in California’s San Bernardino National Forest. This is Southern California’s premiere place to ski and snowboard. With nearly 100 inches of annual snowfall, snowmaking abilities on most of its terrain, and sunshine aplenty, it’s a skiing paradise. The mild weather typical of Southern California prevails and leaves the resort with 300 sunny days a year and some of the best warm weather skiing available.

Four Peaks and over 800 Acres

The total acreage of the ski area comes in just under 800, which is spread out over four beautiful mountain peaks, but 550 acres remain blissfully underdeveloped and offers visitors access to some of the best backcountry chutes, tree skiing, and powder runs found at any resort in California. There are plenty of options for all ability levels, 30 percent of the terrain is perfect for first-timers and low-intermediate level skiers, 40 percent is intermediate level terrain, and the remaining 30 percent are ideal runs for advanced and expert riders and skiers. The downhill terrain is great, but perhaps what Big Bear is most famous for is its immense, extensive, and award winning terrain parks. Read more about the terrain parks and the over all atmosphere with Terrain Parks and Ski Experience.

Off the Slopes

There are numerous shops, ski and snowboard equipment rental outlets, restaurants, night clubs with après ski, and plenty of other off slope activities to enjoy including a solar observatory, the Moonridge Zoo, and the Valley Historical Museum. The winter recreational area features downhill Alpine skiing, Nordic cross-country skiing, snowboarding and moonlight snowshoeing. Big Bear Lake, which has 22 miles of shoreline and is seven miles in length, is absolutely stunning when viewed from the tops of the four peaks.

Lodging accommodations in the area include resort cabins, private homes, bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, inns, and camping. Big Bear Mountain Resorts and the Big Bear Lake Resort Association team-up every year to bring visitors fantastic ski and stay vacation packages, as well as discounts on lift tickets and specials on lodging. There are also plenty of restaurants, cafes, and eateries to sate all tastes. Check out the Big Bear Mountain Brewery for local beers and hearty, mouth-watering meals.

Getting Here

Fly into Big Bear City Airport, which is open 365 days a year, and is the only airport serving the mountaintop. However, it’s a short drive from nearby Ontario, Orange County Airport as well as Los Angeles International Airport. By car there are three great routes to Big Bear, via Hwy 330, Hwy 38, and Hwy 18. Partake in the rideshare program or there are several chartered bus services serving the area. As an added bonus, there is a complimentary shuttle service that operates between Big Bear Resort and Snow Summit down the road. Snow Summit is the place to go for night terrain park riding.
