Deep Powder Skiing for the Price of Lunch at Red Mountain

Red Mountain Resort in BC, Canada will now deliver affordable in-bounds cat skiing on the flanks of their newly-acquired Mt. Kirkup. At an astonishing $10 a ride, this addition is sure to turn up their reputation as a rising star among North America’s resorts.

Located along the infamous Powder Highway, Red is already known for its pure mountain experience. The new cat skiing operation will shuttle riders from Grey Mountain to Mt. Kirkup’s 6,672 ft. peak, providing riders with access to nearly 200 acres of gladed tree skiing and 1,600 feet of vertical drop. The mountain features three new intermediate and advanced runs down the south side of the hill that will deliver riders back to the shiny new chair at Grey Mountain. Best of all, the area will be patrolled and will be considered in-bounds terrain that was previously only accessible by hiking.

The addition of cat skiing comes on the heels of Red’s whopping 1,000 acre acquisition of Grey Mountain last year, which provided another 360-degree descent from one lift, a rare feature to be found. The expansion firmly roots Red on the same scale as large resorts for skiable acres. CEO Howard Katkov is thrilled to offer the unspoiled experience for avid skiers and riders, he mentioned in a press release.

With 300” of annual snowfall, Red Mountain already boasts ideal conditions for skiing and riding, without the commercialization of other resorts: 2,957 acres of pristine skiing, a vertical of 2,919 ft. (that’s 890 m), thrilling tree runs, and wide open groomers. The industry has taken notice and has recognized Red with the “World Snow Award” for the most improved North American snow resort and best global upcoming resort last year, in addition to the “Most Underrated Resort” by Skiing, and #1 in Powder’s “Top Ten for Most Powder per Person.”

With the new expansion this year, skiers can ride unfettered, deep powder for the same price they would pay for a slice of pizza and a drink. Seats will be sold first-come, first-serve with the purchase of a lift ticket or a season pass.  Cat skiing and lunch anyone?
