More Lutsen to Love with $6M Upgrades

Lutsen Mountains Resort in Minnesota is a prime choice for any Midwest ski or snowboarding vacation. Its four interconnected peaks rise above the North shores of Lake Superior to produce one of the most picturesque ski resorts in the country.

Known for its scenic glade skiing and steeps, and peppered with wide open spaces and long green runs, Lutsen offers more than any other resort in the Midwest region. This year’s exciting upgrades is yet another reason to visit this distinct ski area.

This ski season will be met with the replacement of the old gondola and the expansion of the Summit Chalet. The shiny new $6M Doppelmayr gondola features 8-passenger cabins and heated seats. Its capacity – up to 8 times that of the older gondola – will nearly eliminate wait times on busy days when traveling to and from Moose Mountain. In addition to the new gondola, the Summit Chalet at the peak will be expanded, and more observation decks and hiking trails installed.

This all comes after a recent announcement for a $50M expansion at Granite Peak. The expansion is expected to double the capacity of the entire resort. The proposal includes a new high-speed lift, additional terrain, slopeside lodging, more parking, along with new skier service buildings. Future plans may also include a history museum atop of Moose Mountain, canopy tours, zip lines and rope courses.

The new gondola and the Summit Chalet expansion are both scheduled to be ready in time for opening day on November 14 2015. The resort plans to be opened daily during peak season from Dec. 11, 2015 – Apr. 10, 2016.
