Eldora Mountain Resort’s New Owner Has Big Plans

Recently Eldora Resort sold to Powdr Corp, a family owned company that already owns Copper Mountain, which is also in Colorado, as well as several other ski resorts in other states. Eldora’s new owner, Powdr owner and CEO John Cumming,  chose Colorado to expand the company’s presence in the Rocky Mountains by serving as an entry point and training ground for Front Range beginners and families.  It sounds like he’s very happy with the his recent acquisition, and wants it to continue serving as a great place to bring the whole family.

Eldora’s most recent owner, Killebrew, feels that Powdr will be able to bring to fruition the master plan for Eldora that he has already set in place. Killebrew wanted to expand terrain, upgrade lifts, and add a restaurant to Eldora. The Forest Service largely approved plans, but rejected the 70-acre expansion. There are mixed opinions among those who love Eldora, when it comes to adding new terrain. Powdr hasn’t officially stated whether or not they’ll continue to pursue these expansion plans.

One thing that’s guaranteed though, is that skiers won’t have to worry about price changes for the upcoming season. The passes are available now on Eldora’s website, with several different pass plans available. There’s talk that Powdr will eventually create new ski pass programs with Copper Mountain, since Powdr owns that resort as well. However, no dates or added information has been given. Along with new ski pass programs, there’s a talk of new ski school programs, which will surely be a popular addition to Eldora’s charm. Powdr is known for owning small, family-friendly ski areas, so creating a ski school definitely sounds like something they’d be interested in pursuing.
