Everyone: Welcome to the 60th Anniversary and the grand opening of the Crystal Mountain Resort’s $9M Expansion! With 25,000 ft. of newly expanded terrain, skiers and snowboarders will be able to take advantage of a new triple chairlift and eight downhill trails that ensures the experience for skiers and snowboarders is like no other. The trails were purposely designed to make skiing more inviting for the beginner — and by leaving the intermediate trails untouched, and maintaining the natural shape of the terrain, experienced skiers will find the trails more intriguing.

One of the biggest advantages for skiers and snowboarders are the two trails that run parallel to each side of The Backyard, where beginners have access to longer runs so they can practice and hone their skills. Each trail varies in its pitch and contour which allows beginners in both groups to venture out and build confidence.

Another feature included in this expansion is a new snow-making pipe, almost a mile long, which gives Crystal Mountain the ability to use portable snow-making units to cover The Backyard with beautiful pristine snow, plus six new tower-mounted fan guns to help get the job done!

Perhaps, if you are not a fan of skiing, no worries, because the resort also features two championship golf courses; the award-winning Crystal Spa; the Peak Pool & Fitness Center; Michigan’s only alpine slide; a Park at Water’s Edge; plenty of dining and shopping; plus a multitude of other amenities, so you will have a plethora of activities to choose from.

Crystal Mountain is a premier, family owned resort, open all year-round and located about 30 minutes southwest of Traverse City, Michigan – which by the way – is another beautiful resort-style city worth visiting during your stay at Crystal Mountain. So if you’ve not yet made your winter plans, then perhaps you’ll want to consider The Backyard bar-b-ski, and experience the newness and excitement of all the recently developed niceties the resort has to offer.
