Attitash Mountain Resort – Bartlett, NH

The town of Bartlett, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is home to Attitash Mountain Resort. Named for Dr. Josiah Bartlett who signed his name directly under John Hancock on the Declaration of Independence, Bartlett is 85 miles from Portsmouth, 95 miles from Manchester, and 130 miles from Boston. The roughly 2,000 residents welcome thousands of tourists each year who hike and bike in the summer, ski and snowboard in the winter, and explore covered bridges throughout the county side.

New Hampshire is home to over 11 ski resort communities and seven of those ski destinations, including Attitash Mountain Resort, are within 45 miles of Bartlett (three within 20 miles). And while New England towns have a feel unlike the rest of the U.S., Bartlett is no exception with 10 authentic restaurants, quaint bed and breakfast lodgings, full-service resorts, and a National Forest engulfing the area.  Staying there offers winter vacation travelers a family-friendly atmosphere with plenty to do, including sleigh rides, ice climbing and skating, Nordic skiing, mountain coaster rides, and much more.

While the town is small, the lodgings are great. The slope-side lodging of the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel has 143 guest rooms, while the Attitash Mountain Village Resort is a 60-acre resort with 350 guest rooms, and The Seasons Condominium Resort consists of 176 one- and two-bedroom condominium units. You can’t go wrong visiting the area this year. Families will enjoy the atmosphere and relaxed New England town and avid skiers will relish the advanced tree-lined terrain and back-country trails.

Fun Fact: The West Wing used Dr. Josiah Bartlett’s family history for the fictional character of President Josiah ‘Jed’ Bartlet (notice the different spelling?). Dr. Bartlett supposedly was the president’s great, great, great grandfather. In the Thanksgiving episode of Season Two, the president gave Charlie Young his family’s carving knife that was made by Paul Revere. Just a little trivia for you.
