A-Basin’s New Surprises Highlight its Classic Character

In central Colorado, anticipation was at an all-time high this season.

With three early season snow storms helping out, and snow guns blasting sweet white potential every night, powderhounds are rejoicing that Arapahoe Basin has fired up their lifts for its 70th season.

And this year is going to be epic. Averaging 350 inches of snow per year, A-Basin is a reliable but unique favorite that always delivers for locals and visitors in the know. After starting with a single tow rope, the area now boasts six lifts, including a high speed quad, 960 amazing acres, and some of the most incredible side country in Colorado. And they aren’t stopping there.

For the third year in a row, the mountain is offering its guests some new surprises. This year, with about a million invested, visitors will experience better access points to the base area. Resurfacing and widening pathways allow for quicker lift access, but will do nothing to diminish the unique personality so famously associated with both the mountain and the people who frequent it.

The mountain is also doubling its retail space, which will open up all sorts of options for the gear heads looking to purchase or demo new skis, boards, boots, goggles and accessories. This will provide some much needed opportunities for visitors who like to ski a mountain that doesn’t have a town built up around it yet.

And to show off their improvements, Arapahoe Basin is taking the weekend of December 9, 10 and 11 to celebrate their 70th anniversary. There will be live music, games, birthday cake and lift tickets costing only $46/adult and $19/child!

Never tailgated breakfast before? Get a taste of local life by stopping by the parking lot early in the morning (as long as it’s not a powder day!) with your favorite Bloody Mary mix. Hang out and meet the individuals who know how to start a truly epic day on the slopes.

Need to get more excited? Watch the snow pile up through A-Basin’s reliable webcams to help build the stoke (as if we need it). See you there!
