Waterville Valley Savings Entice You to Come Check Out the Changes!

The Sununu family along with a group of investors purchased the ski resort and its properties from the California-based company Booth Creek Resorts in October 2010. Since then, the owners have been making impressive improvements to the property that will definitely excite any and all skiers and riders. And while the area suffered some damage after hurricane Irene, the ski area and businesses in the area have made sure that they will be prepared for the upcoming winter season.

Waterville Valley Ski Area has vastly improved its offerings, including adding an amazing Zaugg brand Pipe Monster, which is truly a monster. The 18-foot pipe has been showcased at the Winter X-Games and the US Open Snowboarding Championship. Zoom down one of the largest half pipes in the world, and revel in the intensity of the experience.

Waterville Valley has also added over $500,000 worth of improvements, including 25 new energy-efficient snowmaking tower guns. Forget about issues with snowpack. These towers greatly extend the snowmaking capacity of the resort. The company has also purchased a grooming cat, and it has made upgrades to restrooms in the base lodge. It has also added more family bathrooms, and the Alpine Grill food service area and menu has been greatly improved.

If you are tired of expensive snowboard/skiing lesson fees, then Waterville Valley has another treat for you. Starting this season, you can learn how to ski or snowboard for $35. This package is for all skiers ages 7 and up, but you must purchase your tickets up to 24 hours in advance. Rent quality equipment for up to 50% off at the wonderful and locally owned Franconia Sport Shop. Also, while you are in the area stay at the delightfully well-appointed Coppertoppe Inn and Retreat Center and get 25% off your reservation.

The Waterville village offers year-round entertainment for both locals and tourists. The ski area has 12 lifts and 52 trails on over 250 acres of land. It boasts the highest ski slopes in the state at 4,000 feet. The village also has skate parks, an ice arena and an athletic club to enjoy while visitors are off the slopes. 3rd Annual Ultimate Boarder at Northstar March 18-19

Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is hosting the 3rd Annual Ultimate Boarder Championship Kick-Off on March 18th and 19th. This event is a triathlon competition that lasts a week, and unlike many snow sports events focuses only on boards. Skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding are the focus at this event that recognizes the booming popularity of all types of board sports among young athletes and the popular of the past-time of board sports among amateur athletes and kids just looking to have fun.

February 27th is Betty Fest at Keystone

Keystone Ski Resort hosts the Betty Fest on February 27th and 28th. The Betty Fest is a festival especially designed for women. Women can enjoy skiing and snowboarding in an environment designed to allow them to learn and enjoy themselves

without intimidation or the pressure that people often feel when hitting the snow at a top resort like Keystone with others around to see them.

The emphasis is on a fun learning environment just for women, with things like extensive training on the trails of the Keystone Ski and Ride School. Participants can be videotaped so that they can see their form and be analyzed by the teachers to help them improve their skiing and snowboarding skills. The weekend will also be full of discussion groups about women’s issues such as nutrition, health issues and on-the-snow equipment for women.

Classes and training are led by qualified, PSIA-certified instructors who are also all women, to help everyone feel comfortable on this women’s weekend. Annie Black, who was named Ski Instructor of the Year in Colorado, will be one of the instructors at Keystone at the Betty Fest. Groups are kept small to offer more support and camaraderie in this weekend designed to let women support women in snow sports.

Ladies can also enjoy a lunch each day as well as an après-ski party. The Betty Fest is held monthly at Keystone, with February session over the weekend of the 27th and 28th The price is $245 per person, for the weekend or $150 for one day, plus lift tickets.

Mammoth Mountain Olympic Snowboarding Qualifier

One of the top events this season will take place January 4 through Jan 10, 2009. The qualifications for Olympic snowboarding take place in the 2010 United States Snowboarding Grand Prix. Mammoth Mountain is an appropriate place for this event, because it was the site of the first Olympic snowboarding team announcement in 1998. A slopestyle event is planned in addition to the halfpipe competitions that give competitors a shot at stardom at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
