Breckenridge Ski Vacation Experience
If you're after world-class no-limits skiing, Breckenridge, Colorado is for you! Just a couple hours from Denver, it's easy to fly in to Denver International Airport and be on the slopes, waist deep in powder that very same day!
Let's start with the stats: The mountain's base is at 9600 feet, while the highest skiing peak is just two feet under 13,000 feet, for a vertical rise of 3,398 feet! (The actual summit of 1 is at 13,643 feet!) That vast set of mountainside offers up 2,350 acres of skiing, serviced by 29 lifts with nearly 150 trails, one of which is three and a half MILES long! Thirteen percent of the mountain is beginner trails, just under a third is designated as Intermediate, and over half are Black Diamond. The back bowls of Breckenridge are famous, each run an epic adventure! Peaks 7, 8, 9, and 10 are all developed mountains now. What else can you call a place like that? Breckenridge is HUGE!
Breckenridge has been a favorite for a very long time. The mountain's ski patrol checks out every avalanche potential at least once a day, and does an incredible job at ensuring everyone's able to have a good time while enjoying safety on the slopes. Ski instructors can provide everything from beginner's lessons to private instruction which can make a world of difference in your skiing, regardless of your level of ability, in very short time. Their insights have proven invaluable, even made major differences in the development of professionals coming up! Beckenridge is part of an active set of ski competitions as well. With all those acres and miles of trails, the terrain parks, jumps and bumps, you could spend weeks at Breck and not tire of it, or even ski them all!
Apres-ski? How do you begin to count the possibilities? There are several bars and restaurants in the village and all over the town. Live music is found in several of the pubs, as well as in the restaurants, both there in Breckenridge and in nearby Frisco and Dillon. Dancing, dining (everything from casual grub to fine dining) and most everything anyone could want to enjoy after a long day on the slopes, it's all there in Breckenridge!
Regarding clothing and ski gear: The altitude at Breckenridge makes a big difference. The mountain has been open at times when wind chill caused temperatures at the top of the mountain to be sixty degrees BELOW zero! You'll also be very high up, getting a lot less oxygen and a lot more UV rays. Dress appropriately; wear light layers, a breathable waterproof outer shell, a hat that covers your ears, ski mask, goggles, gloves (of course) and at least a neck gator. Go ahead and put on some sunscreen, even if you don't think you'll burn. These simple precautions go a long way to ensuring that your ski vacation is all that it can be!
