Ski Wyoming: Jackson Hole - Snow King - Grand Targhee
Jackson Hole, along with its nearby resorts of Snow King Resort and Grand Targhee Resort, is known around the world for its challenging terrain and runs atop 460 inches of powder you could lose a house in.
Expert Skiers can attack the S & S Chute, Bivouac, Rendezvous, Paint Brush, Alta Chutes, Corbet's Couloir, and The Hobacks. A fully natural and completely radical quarterpipe and halfpipe can be found on Upper Dick's Ditch. Jackson Hole's amazing superpipe will be found on Après Vous along with an astounding selection of natural hits, jumps, and kickers. Half of all the runs on Jackson Hole's slopes are rated advanced and expert only, so you know that you'll find more than enough challenges here to keep you entertained.
Intermediates will find plenty of great skiing on Jackson Hole's 2,700 acres with great runs like Wide Open, Sleeping Indian, and Amphitheatre, as long as you remember that these intermediates might be rated advanced at most other ski resorts in the country.
Beginners have a fairly good selection of easy and safe runs to choose from as long as you keep in mind that the vast majority of Jackson Hole is essentially designed for skiers between intermediate and expert grade. Unfortunately this is not the first resort you'd pick if your family had some children and beginning skiers as much of the mountain is just a bit too challenging for the early skill levels. There are some relatively easy runs off the Eagle's Rest Double and the Teewinot Quad, but neophytes should really resort to Jackson Hole's marvelous ski school and their Learn To Turn program before they try to get too wild on the slopes. The Terrain Park has excellent intermediate features and a relatively small quarterpipe where you can enjoy the endless blankets of bone dry Wyoming powder and what could be the best skiing winter weather anywhere in the country.
Dining by the slopes at Jackson Hole is nothing short of fantastic. You can choose from outrageously elegant and upmarket restaurants such as the Alpenrose, Cascade Grill House and Spirits, or Vertical where you will dine on world-class cuisine accompanied by a world-class tab. For more budget oriented family dining, some of the excellent restaurants include The Village Cafe, Masa Sushi, and Dietrich's Bistro. On any given night you might find some amazing big name international stars dropping into the Mangy Moose at Teton Village to give a standing room only show.
There is so much to do off the slopes in this area that it could easily keep you busy all winter long just exploring all the options. Of course what is the point of coming to this area without scheduling at least several days to see American Nature at its absolute finest in the mind-boggling and life-changing Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks? Once you've spent at least a week just scraping the surface of these amazing wonderlands, you can take a horse-drawn sleigh ride out to the National Elk Refuge and hang out with 10,000 of your new, horned, good friends.
The kids will love the Wildlife Expeditions of Teton Science School which offers day long wildlife spotting expeditions with a specially trained biologist to fill in all the details. The Jackson Hole Nordic Center and the Continental Divide Dogsled Adventures will get you mushing with the best of them in scenery that could easily pass for the Iditarod.
