Experience Skiing in Vermont: Jay Peak - Mad River - Sugarbush

Jay Peak is justifiably proud of its 355 inches of powder which ranks as one of the deepest packs in the entire Eastern United States. Atop that deep pack is the reason that the dyed in the wool skiing experts throng to Jay Peak is because of the extreme degrees of difficulty presented by some of its world-renowned black-black-black runs like Ullr's Dream, Hell's Crossing, Kokomo, Lower Milk Run, and the almost unbelievably challenging Haynes and Jet. If you have a hankering for some artificial features to follow up on your natural ones, head to The Park, on Lower Can Am for a C box, a rainbow rail, an S rail, a straight box, a rollercoaster rail, plus step-ups and lots of other features that will keep even the advanced skier fully engaged and challenged all the way.

The Rail Garden is the fully intermediate park with enough sizeable hits, rails, barrels, picnic tables, chairs and lots of other interesting feature to keep the mid-range skier entertained. The Rail Garden is one of precious few parks in Vermont that's set up for night riding so you can even go play on it après ski! The Progression Park is on Rabbit Trail and its features are all over the board. You'll find mostly intermediate builds, but you will also find some that are quite suitable for the kids and neophytes, and even one or two that really should be rated advanced only. It's an excellent park for everyone to practice on. The kids and the beginners should just skip the other three parks and make Grom Park on Harmony Lane their Terrain Park of choice. It's full of fun features that are small enough to be challenging to the neophytes and the little ones while being safe at the same time.

Jay Peak Resort has a large, superbly Zambonied ice skating rink and if you're up for a nighttime activity that will please the whole family and especially the kids, check out sledding action up behind the Hotel Jay after the sun goes down. How anyone could come to Vermont, and not go on a good ol' fashioned sleigh ride is completely inconceivable, so in order to be set right with the world, Phil & Karen's Sleighrides will be happy to take you through the snowy backcountry in the time-honored fashion. If you're feeling like cutting through the valleys and meadows with a little bit more horsepower, the Jay Village Inn can set you up with a snowmobile rental of your choice, from super powerful racing type machines to placid, comfortable family sleds to explore the whole area including the country around Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.

It would also be a shame to come to Jay Peak and not take a bit of time to visit the amazing Francophone Montreal, which is only about 90 minutes drive away but will make you think that you've stepped into Europe. Make sure your passport is completely up to date as the Customs Agents have become very particular in the past little while, and the last thing you need is a hassle at the border with a car full of cranky kids. Once in Montreal, you will find gourmet food, shopping and entertainment easily at a Parisian level. It's an amazing city and one that has to be experienced to be believed.
