The village of Lake Placid has been the site of two Olympic Winter Games, the first one in 1932 and the second in 1980. Since then, the Olympic village has grown and expanded into a behemoth of winter sport activities. The Olympic center features ice skating, speed skating, hockey and curling. The sports complex features bobsledding, luging, skeleton, and biathlon shooting range. And don’t forget the enormous Olympic Jumping Complex which launches skiers the length of a football field.
The ski stats are nearly as impressive. There is 283 acres of land including 35 in-bounds double black wilderness skiing and 53 acres of tree skiing. The resort averages 200 inches of snow but also has extensive, state-of-the-art snowmaking on 98% of its land. Most impressively, Whiteface Lake Placid boasts the biggest vertical in the East with 3,430 feet!
