Big Sky

Branded as America’s Biggest Skiing, Big Sky offers more of everything you have grown to love about skiing. Since merging together with Moonlight Basin,  there’s even more Big Sky and big skiing to enjoy at one of the largest ski areas in the US.

America’s Biggest Skiing

Big Sky offers skiing on four mountains covering close to 5,800 acres, with more runs than you can shake a ski pole at – 300+ named trails and 110 miles of runs. Lone Peak is Big Sky’s largest peak, at an elevation of 11,166 feet Skiers can ride the Lone Peak Tram up the 4,300 foot vertical rise to access Big Sky’s infamous chutes and wide expansive bowls. There, they can stand in Montana and see the two neighboring states of Idaho and Wyoming.  The other peaks include Mountain Village which hit 7,500 feet, and Lone Moose & Six-Shooter both sit at 6,800 feet high.

Located 50 miles south of Bozeman, the resort easily gets 400 inches of snowfall yearly. Moonlight Basin’s high elevation and northern exposure allow for dry, light snow that sticks around.  The resort makes all that accessible by transporting up to 29,000 skiers per hour on approximately 30 lifts including a 15-passenger car. West Yellowstone offers more than one location to ski, and we’ve provided more information regarding those resorts. Just browse the categories under Montana to read more about Bridger Bowl, Red Lodge, and Whitefish Mountain Resort. In addition, you can read more about skiing the Big Sky Resort with Ski Experience and the snowboarders will enjoy checking out Snowboarding Zone.

Off the Slopes

After a day on the slopes, there’s the convenience and nightlife of the Mountain Village to enjoy. It’s a self-contained destination resort with more than 1,000 lodging units, well over 30 local restaurants, outdoor heated pools, hot tubs, child care services, and even legal poker games, if you’re so inclined. Stop by the Madison Brewing Company to taste the hand-crafted local beer or choose from the award-winning wine list of Peaks restaurant in the Summit Hotel. You can’t go wrong at any of the local restaurants for a great dining experience.

Getting Here

Getting here is easy. Three major airlines fly into the Bozeman Airport where rental cars and shuttles services are available for the 50 mile highway drive to the resort.
