Alpine Valley

Alpine Valley of Michigan, not to be confused with Alpine Valley of Wisconsin, is located in White Lake, less than an hour north of Detroit. This is a quality family-friendly ski resort that offers 25 runs with one hundred percent snowmaking ability.

A Fun Destination Not Far From the City

The resort is probably more known for the three terrain parks, than the runs on the mountain. The runs are accessibly by nine high-capacity chairs, four rope tows for the beginners, and a wonder carpet also for beginners. The vertical drop of 300 feet provides mostly beginning to intermediate style skiing, and most people admit the advanced runs would be considered green runs in the Rockies. But with 118 skiable acres, this is definetly a great place to learn to ski with a family friendly atmosphere. The terrain parks are some of the largest in the area, and spread throughout the mountain, giving free style riders and boarders plenty of room to play. There's even a 350-foot half-pipe. Read more about the Ski Experience at Alpine Valley and about the Snowboarding Zone.

The staff should be proud of their snowboard programs for kids and adults. Children and adult beginners get top quality ski and snowboarding instructions in group lessons. There are also semi-private lessons available for tiny groups and private lessons for those who want one-on-one ski instruction. They also have a race program for both adults and kids who want to learn to handle the slalom and the giant slalom.
