ski Sunday River

Skiing in Sunday River Ski Resort places you within an enormous and exciting resort that is so huge it has three base lodges, South Ridge, Barker Mountain and White Cap, and proudly offering 155 inches of the finest Eastern powder on its eight mountains. Being one of the best resorts in the North Eastern United States means that it's very popular and sometimes can be quite crowded, especially on long weekends. The resort is generally a beginner to intermediate paradise, but expert skiers will find the challenges not quite up to their level on most of the slopes. The intermediates will rule the roost with superb runs like Blind Ambition, Excalibur, Rogue Angel, Monday Mourning, Obsession, and Lazy River. Beginners should stick primarily to South Ridge where there are twelve easy runs serviced by a high-speed quad, a triple, a double and a surface lift. Be aware that this area can get to be elbow to elbow on busy days during your Sunday River Ski Vacation

Sunday River offers up four totally separate Terrain Parks to ensure that everyone in the family, from the child first developing their skills to the adults who want a real challenge, will be more than satisfied. Whoville on South Ridge is for the children's specialty park with lots of exciting small snow features like small rails, a 10-foot jump, a couple of rollers and some bank turns. Adult beginners will want to head to the South Ridge Jib Park, with a variety of features that are a little bit bigger and more challenging than Whoville. One of the best intermediate Terrain Parks in the country has to be 3D Park on the 3D trail on North Peak. 3D is where you'll find some serious hits, a mini mogul course, and a great selection of good-sized rails and flat boxes. The experts will love the incredibly challenging terrain features at Rocking Chair Park and the amazing superpipe near the Locke Mountain triple chair. The Sunday River Ski and Snowboard School offers a unique teaching program called Perfect Turn with eight levels to suit any skier from the barest beginner to the experienced high intermediate.

When the ground is brown and the trees are bare along the Maine coastline, you can be assured that Sunday River will have endless stretches of magnificent powder waiting for you. The area rarely if ever has a mid-winter thaw and conditions usually vary from good to incredible.

There are so many great dining opportunities in the Sunday River Ski Resort area that the hardest part is choosing. Some of the truly family friendly places that are relatively easy on the pocketbook include Foggy Goggle which has a great and very popular lunch, and two glorious decked restaurants, Sliders and The Peak Lodge are also wonderful places to enjoy lunch and the view. The Matterhorn Great Grizzly American Steakhouse is in a huge barn that's stacked to the rafters with ski memorabilia. It's a wonderful place to take the whole gang as there's superb family entertainment on weekend nights up until about 10 pm.

The White Cap Fun Center offers up amazing activities for kids of all ages. You can go tubin' and tumblin' at night at their lighted tubing park, go ice skating or just stick yourself in front of a video game machine and forget the world. Sun Valley Sports can rent you a snowmobile and Bethel Outdoor can hook you up with rock climbing, snowshoeing tours or indoor laser tag and miniature golf.
