Shawnee Peak Ski Vacation Guide

This ski area was designed to compete with the smaller New England ski resorts that draw families and novice skiers, while simultaneously courting those who usually head for the larger resorts. It's the “just right” ski experience for beginning, intermediate, and advanced skiers.

Ski Levels

The emphasis is on family, learning, and safety on the slopes. With 44 trails and two terrain parks, every skier can find something to enjoy. Racing clinics, a top notch ski school, an array of private and group lessons for all ages and experience levels are available. Not to mention night skiing and night terrain park riding. Mattress races and a variety of other NASTAR ski races and events help boost their reputation as a family ski resort.

Après Ski

The mountain hosts many exciting winter events, including the Musher's Bowl and Winter Carnival, a Moonlight Ski-athon and the yearly Family Fest complete with outdoor activities, entertainment, a pie-eating contest, and more. In nearby Bridgton, ME, families can check out historic heritage centers, and engage in wintry outdoor activities, an art gallery featuring 60 local artists and a beautiful Civil War monument are great places to visit while in the area.

Dining at Shawnee Peak is designed for families and those who want the standard pub and American fare. A café is open from breakfast until the lifts close and offers basic dishes like sandwiches, burgers, hearty soups, and healthy salads. Hot and cold beverages, candy, and deli items are available at the resort as well. There's also a pub that doubles as a full-service restaurant on the mountain.

For après-ski, there's a full-service restaurant and bar located slope side as well as some neighborhood pubs in Bridgton and North Conway. There are also plentiful lodging options slope side such as the Shawnee Peak House and the luxurious East Slope Condos. In the neighboring towns of Bridgton and Freyberg visitors can find condos, guest houses, motels, hotels, cottages, country inns and bed & breakfasts, whatever the budget or taste the Shawnee Peak area has it all.

Riders Guide

This mountain features 40 trails and four glades that range from slopes for beginning and intermediate skiers to advanced terrain.It boasts one of the largest areas for night skiing in New England with 19 trails and 1,300 vertical feet, and it also lights up the terrain park so you can ride under the stars. There are a nice variety of trails for all skill levels, 25 percent beginner, 45 percent intermediate, and 30 percent advanced and expert.

Parks and Pipes

This ski area offers two terrain parks, one of them lit up at night along with their massive halfpipe. Located on the main slope is a 400-foot halfpipe, wall ride, as well as rails, boxes and jibs that offer challenges to new and experienced snowboarders alike. The Grommet Garden is a terrain park aimed at novice park riders and boarders who would like to build confidence riding smaller features that are ideal for learning.

Out of Bounds

The mountain offers racing school and ski school for beginners and children, specifically designed to help new skiers and snowboarders feel comfortable on the slopes. There are first-timer packages and comprehensive packages for kids and adults who want to learn new skills. Nearby Bridgton, Freyberg, and North Conway offer a host activities and attractions, such as museums and shopping. These towns also host a variety of restaurants and pubs.

Hangout & Hookup

For après-ski, the slopeside pub offers a fully stocked bar as well as light fare, decadent desserts and live entertainment on the weekends. The resort also has a cafeteria with a full array of food choices and a menu catered to children. Family and large group gatherings are popular and many of the restaurants in the area are able to sit larger groups of people when notified in advanced.
