Wisp Resort

Tucked away in the northwest of Maryland is the unexpected delight of Wisp Resort. Located at Deep Creek Lake—the state's largest inland lake—this family-friendly mountain has gone out of their way to make itself into an east-coast thrill center for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.

Four-Season Resort

Wisp is a very popular place for locals and visitors alike. The mountain is graced with good snow, and what they lack in nature, the grooming crew have successfully created. The slopes are a comfortable balance with 41 percent of the trails dedicated to beginners, while Intermediate and advanced skiers enjoy the majority of the mountain. A fresh nine million dollar expansion added 10 trails and two new Quad Chairs to the northwest side of the mountain, including one new Expert run. Read more with Ski Experience. In addition, snowboarding is welcome all over the mountain, as well as the constantly expanding terrain park for non-stop excitement. The mountain has the Savage Half-pipe, fun boxes, ramps, and rails (from five to forty feet), Terrain Gardens mini parks, Whip Saw Terrain Trail, Super Pipe, Rail Park, Tubing Park, and Kid Zones. The Pro Park and its instant rushes have been moved to the base of the mountain, so the daredevils and adrenalin junkies will have more time to play on them. There's even snow biking, if you think you're up to it. Wisp is a flat out great time for kids of all ages.

Off the Slopes

Wisp has worked hard to earn and maintain its appeal. Constantly upgrading, this mountain has become famous for quality instruction, gear rental and friendly staff. Families feel very much at home, and the resort makes a point of packing in the most fun possible everywhere you go! Plans are under way for a mountaintop village, including shops and restaurants, all designed to fit in seamlessly with the natural beauty of the place.

Details matter—it's often the little things that count. And the staff sees to them, in details like the ski carpet in the beginner’s area. There's a daycare operation on the mountain, and the instructors are top-notch professionals who will make you feel at ease while showing you the ropes. Even if you already know them, a few pointers from the knowledgeable staff can make a huge difference in your skiing or snowboarding abilities. Wisp has proven itself year after year, and it just keeps on getting better. If you haven't been yet, it's about time you checked it out.
