Mohawk Mountain is a classic Connecticut ski resort. It is family friendly, has great snowmaking and terrain, is friendly and homey, and has great deals and discounts throughout the season. The resort is located in Northwestern Connecticut in the Berkshire Mountains. It is completely surrounded by beautiful and protected forests and spans more than 100 skiable acres.
The resort has great terrain for all ability levels. 30% is ideal for new and beginning skiers, 50% is great for intermediates, and the remaining 30% is fairly challenging and limited to advanced skiers. There are 24 trails and nearly 10 lifts. The summit of the mountain is 1,600 feet and skiers can enjoy racing down more than 600 feet of vertical. As an added bonus, over 95% of the terrain is covered by Mohawk’s extensive snowmaking fleet and night skiing is available every night of the week on 12 trails.
Mohawk is dedicated to providing families and younger children with a safe and enjoyable environment. Mohawk Mountain Ski Patrol is an organization of volunteers trained in outdoor emergency care. They are all over the mountain and prepared to handle any situation that may arise on the mountain. They are also dedicated to safety and keep an eye out so that everyone can have a great time. Mohawk also boasts a professional staff of PSIA certified instructors who teach lessons of all kinds from beginners, to children’s to adults and race school. They have group instruction, women’s only-classes and lessons catered to instilling in kid’s a lifelong love of snow sports. There are a series of great ski lesson packages which include lift tickets, lessons and rentals for one low price.
There are plenty of facilities and services on the mountain. Mohawk has several dining spots, both grab-and-go as well as sit-down restaurants. There is also a great ski shop with top ski and snowboard brands as well as chic Mohawk Mountain gear. Mohawk also houses a great rental and repair shop with an impressive variety of skis and snowboards for both adults and children.
What many people don’t know about Mohawk is that it has a very long history of philanthropy and helping its community. Their focus remains mainly on children and promoting healthy lifestyles by encouraging exercise and giving local children free season passes. They also regularly support several community initiatives throughout Northwestern Connecticut. It is an honorable and worthy reason to support Mohawk Mountain.
The ski area is located in Northeastern Connecticut near the border of New York. The closest major town is Torrington and the closest highway is Route 8. It’s a great family ski area in one of the more beautiful areas of Connecticut.
