Riders Guide - If you’re the type that yearns for a warm friendly resort that focuses its energies on providing the greatest trails and backcountry and less time on unnecessary, superfluous amenities, than look no further than Kirkwood. Located 35 miles from South Lake Tahoe, the resort is close to major ski areas but secluded enough that it feels like another world. The area boasts pretty impressive stats, 2,300 acres, 2,000+ vertical feet, 65 named trails, miles of backcountry and more than a dozen lifts. Speed junkies will be happy to know that Kirkwood has a skier/boarder x course that is perfect for racing down as fast as one humanly can.

Parks and Pipes - Burton Adventure Land is the perfect spot for beginners and houses plenty of smaller features for children and novice park riders. Burton Progression Park has intermediate level, mid-sized rails and jumps and even has a mini-halfpipe. Seasoned terrain park riders and freestyle skiers should head to the K2 Stomping Grounds where riders will find a plethora of larger features including a collection of bigger jumps and kinked rails that will vary throughout the season.

Out of Bounds - There are myriad activities available in the region. Snowmobiling, ice skating, snowshoeing, ice climbing, hiking and stunning boat rides around Lake Tahoe are just a few of the options available. In addition to great wintertime activities, there is a host of fantastic entertainment to be had indoors as well. The casino hotels in the area have a lively bar scene, gambling and an impressive assortment of live entertainment. The area also has theatres, museums, shopping and exquisite dining options.

Hangout & Hookup - The Kirkwood Inn is a gorgeous, rustic and historic inn that serves a full menu and has a full bar. There are two additional bars located slope side that offer calm and relaxing après ski atmospheres. In and around the area all types of nightlife can be found whether it be crowded sports lounges or classy wine bars, the Tahoe region has a bit of everything.

The Deal -Kirkwood is within driving distance of several major airports including San Francisco International, Sacramento International and the closest, Reno-Tahoe International. By car it is 14 miles off of Highway 89 on Highway 88. There is also daily shuttle service between the resort and Reno as well as the Bay Area.
