Brian Head Ski Vacation Guide

Brian Head Resort’s 1,320 feet vertical rise is served by 8 different lifts across two peaks. Rated 30% beginner, 35% intermediate, and 35% advanced, skiers and snowboarders can easily access terrain to match their ability level.  The Training Grounds is a designated area that houses two terrain parks with varying features for freestylers whose skills range from beginner to intermediate.

Ski Levels

Widely known in the West as one of the top family-friendly resorts, Brian Head excels at catering to young and older skiers and riders who desire a safe learning environment as well as some challenging skiing.

Brian Head’s 650 skiable acres and 1,500 foot vertical rise present a fantastic mix of varied terrain, but the resort is small enough for groups of different abilities to manage without feeling intimidated.  The resort’s two mountain peaks are smartly divided to focus on different ability levels.  Experienced skiers and riders like the challenging terrain found at Brian Head Peak/Giant Steps Mountain, while the many greens on Navajo Mountain appeal to first timers. While Brian is famous for its noteworthy double black diamonds runs, many skiers appreciate that more than a third of Brian Head’s terrain has a beginner rating.

The resort offers some of the best learner terrain in the area and some of the most highly qualified and experienced instructors in the business. Private and group lessons for adults are available. Skiers will be pleased with the various ski and snowboard lesson options for adults and children at the resort. The Kids Camp offers learn to ski and snowboard lessons and packages for children ages 3-12, as well as day care for children six weeks up to age 12 years old. Two on-mountain ski and snowboard rental shops make outfitting easy, with one conveniently adjacent to the ski school.

Rider’s Guide

Brain Head’s claim to fame is its unique Southern Utah views.  Imagine skiing in 400 inches of snow in a setting just driving distance away from the Grand Canyon, Arches, Bryce and Zion. The two mountains are divided by terrain difficulty, each served by their own lift system – Navajo Mountain for beginners, and the Giant Steps Mountain for advanced riders.  Inbounds trails are spread 30% green, 35% blue and 35% black.  The black trails are punctuated with moguls and glades along some longer runs.

Parks and Pipes

There are two terrain parks in one park area with fun features that will satisfy any rider: the Bunny Bash, the Jibberace, the Junkyard, and a halfpipe, the Snowball. The Bunny Bash is a starting terrain that is ideal for younger riders and first-timers. The Junkyard’s features are perfect for intermediate and advanced riders, and will challenge new riders. Jibberace contains lots of natural and manmade features for the advanced rider.

Out of Bounds

Brian Head has some challenging terrain in the side country, outside the resort boundaries.
There’s also snow tubing, cross-country and snowmobiling in the area.

Hangout & Hookup

Nighttime in the village area is low-key, although a popular hangout is a slopeside pub with an intimate and welcoming après. The bustle and nighttime excitement of Las Vegas is merely three hours away and visitors who want the bests of both worlds are known to take the commute.
