Snowboarding Zone - Alta, Utah:

Riders Guide - Alta is a very impressive Utah resort with a total of 11 lifts, comprising of 5 Surface Tows, 3 Double Chairs, 1 Triple Chairs and 2 High Speed Quads that take you up to 116 trails where you can snowboard on their longest run of 16,800 feet atop 505 inches of powder. Their trails are rated 20% for Beginners, 40% for Intermediates, and 35% for Advanced. Unfortunately, snowboarders are not allowed anywhere on the slopes, so bring your skis!

Parks and Pipes - Alta had a terrain park, but closed it. Too bad. Snowbird is not that far and absolutely loves snowboarders, so head on over there!

Out of Bounds - Alta is the winter home of the Alaska Mountain Guides & Climbing School which provides backcountry skiing and survival courses. Wasatch Powderbird Guides offers up some memorable helicopter skiing and snowboarding in Little Cottonwood Canyon which is located about half way between Snowbird and Alta.

Hangout & Hookup -The most famous bar in the area has to be the Alta Peruvian Lodge bar. You can find great après ski at Goldminer's Daughter Alpine Lounge, The Sitzmark Bar at the Alta Lodge and The Eagle's Nest Lounge at Alta's Rustler Lodge. But you'll be going to Snowbird to snowboard, so why do you care?

The Deal - Fly into Salt Lake City which is served by all the major carriers. Alta is about 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Utah Hwy. 210. Drive east on I-80, south on I-215, take 6200 South exit (turns into Wasatch Blvd.) then follow the signs to Alta and most importantly, Snowbird.
