Utah Ski Vacation Experience - Deer Valley : Park City : The Canyons

It would be an unfair statement to state the skiers don't like snowboarders, but most skiers will agree with you that skiing on a mountain without snowboarders can have its distinct advantages. Deer Valley will offer its magnificent 305 inches of Utah powder for your skiing pleasure and will assure you that there won't be a snowboard anywhere in sight. Expert skiers will go absolutely wild about Flagstaff, Thunderer, Blue Ledge, Grizzly, Daly Chutes, Daly Bowl, Anchor Trees, Morning Star, Fortune Teller, Perseverance, Paradise, Narrow Gauge, Orient Express and Stein's Way. Intermediates will find plenty to keep them busy at Hawkeye, Sunset, Legal Tender, Wizard, Conviction, Solace, Orion, Nabob, Sidewinder, Birdseye, Success, and the challenging Jordanelle. With all this skilled terrain, it's a good thing that Deer Valley also offers up lots of great runs for the neophytes, and the superlative Little Chief Family Ski Area in Empire Canyon which is separated off to keep the hot dogs out and is filled with easy and safe fun.

Deer Valley features an amazing no-snowboards Terrain Park called Tricks 'N' Turns (TNT) Park in the Empire Canyon area, near the Little Chief chair. TNT is primarily designed for intermediate-level skiers and is a bit too challenging for the neophytes. The Ore Cart Rails are adjacent to the Skier Cross Course on Nugget and include some really nice jumps, double barrels, single rails, and funboxes. The ski school offers semi-private and private lessons, but no first timer programs.

The Park City area which also includes The Canyons, has a great choice of fine restaurants but many of them are a bit too pricy for the family budget. The Seafood Buffet has an incredible spread of great Dungeness crab, tiger shrimp and lots of delicious items fresh from the sea, but at almost $60 per person it might be a bit too much wear and tear on your credit card if you're paying for your 8 hungry cousins. Some of the more economical slopeside choices include a much more reasonable breakfast buffet at the Snow Park Restaurant, and fantastic lunch choices at the Empire Canyon Grill and the Silver Lake Restaurant. Should you be in the mood for a short drive, Salt Lake City's thousands of magnificent dining establishments are at your disposal where you'll be able to find everything from dollar burgers to giant live lobsters.

You can't say that you have seen magnificent sights from the air until you have Morning Star Balloons float you over the entire Salt Lake City area. The kids (and you) won't ever stop talking about it, and make sure that you put an extra-capacity memory card in your digital camera before you go. You'll need every byte. The best place to warm up apres ski or anytime is Lava Hot Springs' World Famous Hot Baths and Olympic Swimming Complex where you can thoroughly and completely relax in their 110 degree F odor-free pools, as well as engage in an Olympic swimming challenge. It's a couple of hours from Salt Lake City, but the experience is certainly worth the drive, and the kids will get to see some jaw-dropping Utah scenery on the way.
