Happy Thanksgiving from the Kittredge Staff! The mountain was great today with a nice sunny start, and plenty of light freshies!

We received about 5" of snow so far, and it's still coming down at Main Lodge. Gold Rush and Chair 5 opened with good skiing down Solitude/Easy Rider, and Chairs 4, and 23 are on the list for tomorrow. There is lots of good skiing to be had, but be carefull off piste as there is just enough snow to hide the rocks. If 23 opens, be warned that the snow under the fresh is breakable, and tricky. Hopefully, with enough new snow this son't be an issue.

Cold temps have really helped the snowmaking crew improve the skiing. Stump is almost it's full width top to bottom, and it looks like more terrain will be open soon. They were blowing on Solitude all the way up to the top of Chair 5 last night, and kept going until about 9 am. I am guessing Gold Rush and 5 will be open Thursday or Friday. Meanwhile, they gave Broadway a nice frosting last night, and it was about as good as it gets. Climax is still the best off piste. We skied the Dropout area today and found some rather challenging breakable crust. Maybe it would have been easier if I was not on a slalom ski.

Things are looking rather improved this morning. Last night the temps dropped, and the guns were on. The usual inversion made for lots of snow blown down low. Stump Alley got plenty of attention, and is skiing great. They were also blowing on Easy Rider, and it looks like Gold Rush could open soon. Fascination, St. Moritz, and Chair 11 also are getting resurfaced. Between snowmaking and the shot of natural snow we are looking for tomorrow, Thanksgiving is looking great here in Mammoth!

The story this weekend was the wind. The wind can do good things for the skiing, or bad, and this weekend was mostly the later; at least on the groomed. Right now the groomed runs are composed of a very firm base, with a few inches of sugar on top. The groomers have been doing a pretty good job of icing the cake at night, and the skiing has been great given the lack of snow making temps. But, this weekend lots of sugar got blown off the runs, leaving a polished surface that was a bit slick. Anyone who from the East Coastr would have felt right at home. The best skiing I found was on Climax, Cornice Bowl, and the East Bowl Gullies on Chair 3. Climax was especially fun, with some nice chalky conditions, and lots of early season terrain features. Cara skied her new K2 Extremes on Saturady, and didn't hit a thing, so the coverage is surprisingly good.

It's been a pretty firm week at Mammoth Mountain. The nights have been a little too warm to make snow, while the days have been to cool to soften the snow above mid mountain. However, the skiing has remained fun with some nice snow in the gullies of Chair 3 and Climax. The groomers have kept busy, so there has been plenty of carvable corderouy around Main. Wes Bowl has a pretty challenging rutline, and the parks are full of jibs. Tonight snowmaking will begin a productive run that should get us in great shape for Thanksgiving.
